Last weekend I accompanied my friend Paula on a trip to San Francisco. We stayed in a lovely old building owned by the Native Daughters of the Golden West and designed by Julia Morgan, a five-floor townhouse in the heart of the city.

Third floor parlour . . .

. . . and atrium.
While she attended meetings, I took my camera to explore the nearby neighborhood, full of lovely Victorian homes.

This little fellow caught me by surprise!

The Victorians weren’t the only interesting sights as I made my way to the famous Haight- Ashbury district.

In the afternoon we took the bus across the city to the old Ferry Building and eventually to Fisherman’s Wharf, and two Peach Mules at a seaside pub as we watched the sailboats gliding into the sunset.

I think in another life I could live quite happily in one of San Francisco’s Victorian walk-ups, wandering by foot and bus through it’s many colorful landscapes. It would take a lifetime to explore this vast and vibrant city.

Super pictures! I’ve never visited San Francisco but you make it look very tempting. What a pity the Bound Together book shop was closed. Love those sea lions, they’re such characters!

It is a lovely home. I wish I’d had space to share more photos of the interior. And yes, I loved that wisteria too!

Oh to be a seal, sleek and sleeping in the sun.

It was so funny, that one big guy all by himself had fought off several other seals to preserve his space. I couldn’t quite capture that with my camera, but there was a huge audience watching the show.

Beautiful! Thanks for the walking tour. Is that wisteria growing on the one house? Love it. It looks like a fun place to visit but I’ve always wondered if the hilly streets are scary in real life?

You are welcome. I’m glad you could join me. Yes, that wisteria started on one home but seems to be creeping across its neighbor as well. the only time I find the hilly streets scary is when I’m driving with a stick shift and have to stop at a steep angle. I always imagine my car stalling and slipping down the hill!.

Enjoyed your post very much. I lived in the “City” for years in a house that sat on what were sand dunes at the turn of the previous century. Nice memories-

I spent a summer there in early 1980s – and still have a crush on the city. Me too – in another life! The light, the air! Thanks for sharing your trip.

Thanks, Tricia, you are a kindred spirit. I do hope we both have a chance to live there–in another lifetime.

San Francisco is my favorite city in the world. I lived in the Bay Area for two decades (now in Boston) and my heart is forever lost in the city of fog and sunshine.
