Mist by Maruice Sapiro

After these past two tumultuous weeks launching my new novel, I felt a sudden need to space out for a while. To empty the mind and allow soothing sounds and images to fill it. So I’m turning to old favorites.

Bill Evans’s “Peace Piece” is hailed as one of the most beautiful and evocative solo piano improvisations ever recorded. Miles Davis said: Bill had this quiet fire that I loved on piano. The way he approached it, the sound he got was like crystal notes or sparkling water cascading down from some clear waterfall.

Maurice Sapiro’s tonal painting “Mist,” featured above, so beautifully complements the tranquil radiance found in Peace Piece.

Evans is one of the greatest jazz pianist/composers ever. He greatly influenced the work of many jazz musicians who came after him, including Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays who paid tribute to Evans, who died 45 years ago this month, with another favorite of mine, September 15th.

This unspeakably beautiful song, played with such tenderness and longing, is paired with Sapiro’s haunting paintings below.

I hope you enjoyed mellowing out with me today. Peace and love to you all.

Art and music played huge roles in creating my debut novel When Things Go Missing. It is now available at AmazonBookshopBarnes & Noble and other major retailers.
